7 days: Cape Coast & Kakum
The compact introduction: Accra, the slave forts on the Cape Coast, the canopy walk through the rainforest and beach days in Kokrobite.

Cape Coast, rainforest and the green highlands of the Volta Region.
Ten days is the point at which a Ghana round trip can hold two completely different landscapes: the flat, history-laden Cape Coast in the south and the forested mountains of the Volta Region on the border with Togo. There is one long driving day in between, and it is worth it.
This route also starts and ends in Kokrobite. You change base three times in total; everything else is a day trip. If you would rather drive less, drop the Volta Region and stay longer on the coast; if you want more, add the north and travel for 14 days.
This route is a suggestion, not a fixed package. Every day can be swapped, dropped or extended. We keep adjusting it with you until the trip fits.
This is what your trip could look like. The driving times are honest, because in Ghana a stretch of road rarely takes as long as the map promises.
Pick-up at Kotoka International Airport (ACC), night arrivals included. You are in Kokrobite within 45 to 90 minutes. The rest of the day belongs to arriving.
A walk through the village, the fishermen on the beach in the morning, time by the water in the afternoon. In the evening drumming and dancing groups often play on the beach.
A full day in the capital: market, fishing quarter, independence history. With a guide, the dense traffic turns into a day on which you actually understand something.
About three hours along the coast. In the afternoon the guided tours of Cape Coast Castle and Fort St. George in Elmina. Overnight on the coast.
An early start into Kakum National Park. The canopy walk crosses seven suspension bridges some 30 metres above the forest floor. Afterwards, one of the ground-level forest trails if you like.
The longest driving day of the trip: from the Cape Coast around Accra and east into the Volta Region, roughly six hours with breaks. The landscape changes completely: flat coast turns into forested hills. Overnight near Hohoe.
Ghana's highest waterfall lies right by the border with Togo. The lower fall is a walk of just under an hour through forest across several suspension bridges; if you are fit, the upper fall takes about three hours to climb. Swimming is allowed and, after the climb, highly recommended.
The monkey forest of Tafi Atome is home to mona monkeys that the village regards as sacred and that are correspondingly tame. In the afternoon on to Amedzofe, one of the highest villages in Ghana, with a wide view over the highlands.
About five hours back to the coast. You are on the beach again by the afternoon. The evening belongs to Kokrobite: fresh fish by the water and, depending on the day, drumming on the beach.
Depending on your flight, another morning by the sea, then the transfer to Accra. We plan the drive generously.
We do not quote a package price, because we do not charge one: we work without commission and without booking fees. You pay the guide, the driver, the accommodation and the entrance fees directly, at the same prices we pay. So that you still know what to expect, here is the full calculation.

If you enjoy walking and landscape: yes. The Volta Region is green, mountainous and barely developed for tourism, the opposite of the coast. In return there is one longer driving day out and one back. If you would rather stay by the sea, the 7-day route with more beach days is a great fit.
The lower fall is reached in just under an hour on a level path and is manageable for everyone. The upper fall takes about three hours with a significant ascent and is demanding in the heat. You can decide on each independently, even once you are there.
Three times: two nights on the Cape Coast, three nights in the Volta Region, the rest in Kokrobite. Everything else is a day trip that returns to the same bed.
Yes. Some guests prefer to start with the Volta Region while they are still fresh and keep the coast for the end. Tell us what you would rather do. The order is purely a planning question.
That depends mainly on how you want to sleep and how many of you there are. The individual items are set out openly in the cost table on this page. We take no commission. Write to us and we will work out your route concretely and without obligation.
October to March. In the rainy season the falls carry more water, but the paths become slippery and the approach on minor roads unpleasant. If you want to see the falls at full strength, come in September and expect rain.
More time, less time, or a different focus? These suggestions can be adapted just as freely.
